3.1 TOPIC
Find an example of an attempted statistical generalization on the web. Identify the generalization its sample its intended population and explain why you chose it. Discuss what is right and wrong about the statistic its presentation and the conclusions drawn from it. Make sure that you clearly explain and justify your assessments. Then explain how its shortcomings could be improved. Include the link at the end of your post so that others can examine it for themselves.

3.2 Imagine that you want to collect data for a survey research project:
Who is the population you wish to generalize to? Define who does and does not belong. Explain why. What are the important characteristics of this population that you need to insure representation in your sample? Again explain why.
Describe how you would construct your sample process. Is there a sampling frame? If so what is it and how would you gain access to it? If not how would you proceed without a sampling frame? How would you use multistage sampling to increase your probability of attaining a representative sample?
What are the strengths and limitations for generalizing from your proposed sample to your intended population? Explain the benefits and drawbacks of your strategy.
