A study was done comparing the diagnostic value of mammographyvs. clinical breast exam (CBE) for detecting breast cancer (NewEngland Journal of Medicine 2004 351: 427-437) althougheverything you need to answer the question follows. A total of 1909patients were tested with 45 cases of cancer detected. For CBE atotal of 43 exams were positive 8 of whom turned out to havebreast cancer. The remaining 1866 women had a negative CBE but 37were found to have cancer. For mammography a total of 111 examswere positive with 18 turning out to have breast cancer. For theremaining 1798 women with negative mammography 27 turned out tohave cancer.
