Design Problem :
A water tank of 10 m diameter needs to be designed such that when necessary it should be flush out ( emptied ) within 5 hours. The maximum water level in the tank is expected to be 10 m . however the flush out can be made when the water height in the tank is 5 m or full height. Select the number of exit(s) for the piping and the valve system which will be less costly .use standard pip diameter and the data from the manufacturers. You can select one or two exits from the tank .
Hint :
First determine the pipe diameter required to empty the tank within 5 hours.
Select two exits ( pipes ) and repeat the calculations. Check the price of the pipes valves and welding cost required for tank exit(s) . compare for the lowest cost ( select the low cost ) and justify your selection.
