Gender and Development In July 2010 the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. It focuses on several priority areas including: (i)increasing womens leadership and participation; (ii) ending violence against women; (iii) enhancing womens economic empowerment; and (iv) making gender equality central to national development and planning and budgeting. You have been asked as a gender advisor to brief UN Women by producing an essay on ONE of these priority areas above. The objective is (a) to persuade policy makers to understand the processes that lead to gender inequalities in one of these areas; (b) Devise 5 strategies that policy makers would need to consider implementing to tackle gender inequality in this area.
