I believe the writer uses an introduction that mixes the: Ask a question and Including interesting facts about the subject.At first the introduction makes you think about your heritage and if you are like almost everyone else you probably rattled off to yourself where you descend from. The introduction then draws you in stating that almost everyone can say where they are from and if you did the aforementioned then you just became part of that statistic. Then it does a 180 and makes the reader wonder where specifically their african-american friends have descended from. More or less the reader thinks that african-american people descended from Africa and in turn the introduction did its job by making the reader actually think about the descendent problem that african-americans have. Now that the introduction made the reader think about the topic at hand the rest of the body can help fuel that question that is now burning in the readers mind.
