In the United States trial courts in thefederal justice system are called district courts. The districtcourts havejurisdiction to hear any type of federal cases including criminaland alsocivil federal cases. There are 94 federal judicialdistricts including at least one district in each state theDistrictof Columbia and Puerto Rico.Three territories of the United States the Virgin Islands Guam and the Northern MarianaIslands have district courts that hear federal casesincludingbankruptcy cases.(uscourts.gov.nd.par.2). Each federal district hasat least one courthouseand there are many districts that have more than one.
