The final paper you will write will involve a critical analysis of some features of The Scarlet Letter. When finished the paper should be from 1600 to 2000 words in length. In addition to creating an introductory section that provides the reader with a thesis statement and information about what you plan to do you should continue the paper by using information from the novel to do the following:A. Analyze aspects of the plot and/or a character from a Feminist Critical Perspective.B. Analyze aspects of the plot and/or a character from a Psychological Critical Perspective.C. Analyze aspects of the plot and/or a character and/or the author from a Historical Critical Perspective. It is best to use one theme or main point as the focus then use each critical perspective in your analysis. For example if you considered the idea of sin in The Scarlet Letter you would consider sin from the Feminist Psychological and Historical perspectives. The paper should end with a concluding paragraph that provides an excellent sense of closure for the reader. Although the directions may look like you are being asked to write a standard five paragraph essay creating a quality paper that addresses all of the things asked for in this paper will definitely take much more than five paragraphs. Remember you are being asked to analyze specific things from three different perspectives. At this point you may want to review the lectures on the Feminist Critical Perspective the Psychological Critical Perspective and the Historical Critical Perspective.Since you are being required to use only one source for this paper follow the guidelines that appear in the DiYanni text including the sample student essay for One Source as a Stimulus that you were asked to read earlier in the week. Even if you use only one source you will still need to cite page numbers when you use quotes or present information directly from the text. At the end of the paper you will need a References section even though it may have only one work listed. If you choose to use other sources be sure to list them in this References section and use proper citation form if you refer to them in the text.
