While sampling is often used to measure a population there aresome instances where an entire population is still measured withno sampling involved. A survey of a full population is calleda census. Every 10 years in the United States as dictated inthe Constitution a complete census is taken of the USpopulation. The entire population is counted and variousdetails are determined about them. This information is usedto determine important issues such as where Congressionalrepresentation should be and where Federal money should beapportioned. In recentyears the idea of statistical sampling has been put forward as acost effective and perhaps more accurate alternative to thecensus. Please give tell me if you favor statistical samplingas an alternative to the census as well as reasons why it shouldor should not be put into place.
