You will write an analysis (4-5 pages properly formatted of a motion picture based on or inspired by particular events situations or even individuals in American history. Some films on the list such as Patton have main characters based on real people; others may focus on fictional characters (such as John Waynes flawed yet heroic Sgt. Stryker in Sands of Iwo Jima) operating against a background of actual events or even fuse traits from several real people into a composite character and thus make a smoother or less confusing (or at least less crowded!) story. Fictional period films with little reference to real events (a recently made drama of divorce set in the 1920s for example) are generally unsuitable for our purpose.
