Dear Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Education Board,
I have worked as a leader in the education sector for the past ten years, and I invariably look forward to growth. This letter to shows my intent in a leadership position at your school. I applied for the post after carefully assessing the job description and requirements posted. The opportunity provides a chance to enhance my leadership skills in the education sector, where my learning passion lies. I have engaged in similar roles for the past decade; hence, I believe I will fit into the system faster and contribute to the school’s growth.
Various skills, strengths, and abilities make me an excellent fit for the position. First, I completed teacher evaluations and enhanced discipline among my colleagues while working at Capital Preparatory Schools as an Assistant Principal. Similarly, I engaged in solving parents’ and instructors’ issues, thus establishing a good relationship between them consequently, enhancing the school culture. Secondly, I promoted coordination of school’s special education operations while at Mecklenburg school as a lead teacher through professional development, community life, and overall leadership. Thirdly, while at Strategic Behavior Health Strategy, I worked with teachers to improve the graduation rate from 12% in 2015 to 16% in 2016. Lastly, I restructured the education system at Capital Preparatory school to utilize department services during my tenure.
I discovered my passion for teaching when I was in elementary school. I helped my fellow students solve mathematics problems, giving me the confidence and morale to guide people. After excelling in high school, my mother advised me to take a medical profession, but I declined and insisted on pursuing teaching. I enrolled for a degree course in elementary education and mathematics at Liberty University. Afterward, I pursued a Master’s degree in education leadership at the California University of Pennsylvania. Since then, I have taught in various institutions, both voluntarily and on paid programs.
I was drawn by my love of learning to become a teacher. While working as a teacher, I have learned a lot from the learners. Teaching guarantees job safety since there is always a demand for instructors as learners increase daily. Concurrently, I love the young generation and am always passionate about making their lives better. Additionally, teaching is enjoyable, and being a principal helps one grow professionally and socially through interaction with different classes of people.
A major challenge that contributes to high drop-out rates is inadequate academic preparation to join college. Additionally, some students drop out of college because of the constant discrimination they experience from other students. For instance, most of the groups that fail to graduate come from racially discriminated minority groups. I trust that when the allocation of per-student spending on core academic services increases, there will be an increase in the graduation rate. I can help the students understand complex concepts through my teaching mastering skills. Moreover, I can also enhance their understanding by ensuring that what is taught is connected to real-life. Accordingly, I will consider giving them choices and applying their interests and fascinations.
Being criticized is both advantageous and disadvantageous. Personally, criticism was the lowest point of my life. I remember when I attended an interview as one of the assistant principals in Capital Preparatory School but was turned away due to my dressing code. The embarrassment that I encountered made me fumble when I was given a chance to speak. Surprisingly, one of the panel members noticed that I was uncomfortable and decided to ease the tension. My interview day was rescheduled, and luckily, I secured the chance. Though the whole process was embarrassing, I learned that dressing code matters during interview sessions.
Many characters define an excellent administrator. For instance, one should identify, support and grow talent among those being administered. Also, they should possess strategic visions that pay attention to details. Having the ability to control emotions is beneficial too, especially when under pressure or during stressful situations. Furthermore, an excellent administrator should be conversant with various concepts and should always indicate delegation towards their role.
Technology use in education is very important to both learners and instructors. It eliminates time wastage whereby students and teachers can easily access learning materials and communicate easily, unlike when they are accessed manually. Technology has also enabled online classes, thus enabling students to gain their qualifications online without necessarily being physically present. It plays a major role in helping professionals who opt to learn while earning without necessarily having them quit their jobs.
For one to be an outstanding teacher, they should strive to know their learners. Showing dedication and ensuring student engagement in learning is vital. Also, an outstanding teacher possesses the ability to develop good relationships with their students. Having a kind, patient and caring personality makes one outstanding in the teaching profession. Handling a class with these skills requires commitment. One has to always plan for any possibilities. Moreover, one must seek community support and provide different learning materials for varied skills. It is also beneficial to empower children in documenting their learning capabilities and skills.
Overall, I believe that I am the best fit for the position since I can take the role and deliver exceptional results. I will contribute positively to ensure that the school goes the extra mile in achievement. With my extensive experience and a variety of skills in the education and leadership sector, I will provide the best required since I am focusing on the experience and skills that I have and the social life that I possess. Lastly, my interaction with students and other staff will ensure that life at the college is simplified for the learners, stakeholders, and the staff.
